Down to earth common sense from down under

Muslims in America and Europe are quick to tell us when they are “offended.” Take the case of the Danish cartoons where they filled the streets in London, wildeyed and ranting, waving posters with doomsday slogans, pumping clinched-fists, arm-waving and shouting dire threats of deadly consequences. In France, Germany and the Netherlands they riot, burn cars and destroy private property when they are “offended.” This is very intimidating to westerners and the Muslims know how to exploit these circumstances.

A mirror was held up recently by our forthright Aussie friends to expose the politically correct nonsense of mollycoddling Muslims. We need to take a page from their book.

Against the background of growing outrageous demands from Islamic immigrants to Australia, the government has frankly told them to “assimilate or dissipate.” Since the terrorists attack on Bali, the majority of Australians have experienced a surge in patriotism. In a bid to head off potential home-grown terror attacks the government targeted Muslim radicals with the ultimatum, if you want to live under Islamic Sharia law, then you need to get out of Australia.

Following the Muslim terrorist bombing of London’s subway system (the tube) in July 2005, Australia’s Prime Minister John Howard held a 2-hour summit-conference in Canberra with moderate Muslim leaders to work on a national strategy for addressing intolerance and the promotion of violence. Primary issues were the curriculum of Islamic schools and the vetting of what the imams preached. Howard and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown. He publically announced his intention to have Australian intelligence agencies target Islamic schools and mosques in an effort to “stamp out homegrown terrorism and extremists.”

The PM’s Cabinet Ministers backed him: Treasurer Peter Costello outlined Australia’s position as a secular state with laws made by Parliament. “If those are not your values,” he explained, “if you want a country that has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you. [You] have the opportunity to go to another country – perhaps that’s a better option.” Education Minister Brendan Nelson was blunt: “People who don’t want to be Australians and don’t want to live by Australian values, well then they can basically clear off,” he told reporters.

Howard angered some Australian Muslims by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. “Immigrants, not Australians, must adapt,” he affirmed. Clearly the Australians have lost patience with Muslim nonsense and demands. They are tired of worrying about whether they are offending some individual or their culture. Australian culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. Their logical attitude is, “We speak English, not Spanish, Lebanese or Arabic. If you wish to become part of our society – speak English!”

An e-mail montage of these comments currently making its cyber rounds, has incorrectly attributed all these statements to Mr. Howard, and then in February 2009 to his successor, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. While both of these men may hold the same view, ITM will not attribute words or thoughts to people who did not express them.

Now it’s time for us in the US to speak out and let them know we are offended by their ultra-radical, anti-social and deadly behavior. This is not the time to apologize to the Muslims. That sends the wrong message – that we are weak and at fault. Such is not the case. In the last 20+ years we’ve fought five wars specifically to liberate Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. In these 20 years the United States has done more for suffering oppressed Muslims than any other nation on earth – Muslim or non-Muslim. We’ve spilled American blood for them; we don’t need to apologize to them.

In the 7 ½ years since 9/11 there has not been a single anti-Muslim riot in the United States to protest the greatest massacre in U.S. history by 19 Muslim terrorists, primarily from Saudi Arabia. Yet during this time thousands of Muslims rioted all over the world (resulting in the deaths of over 100 people) to express their outrage over a bunch of cartoons! Let’s get some perspective here.
